In un saggio del 1936, La radio, l’arte dell’ascolto, un giovanissimo Rudolf Arnheim salutava l’avvento della radiofonia come l’evento che avrebbe finalmente, come già era avvenuto col grammofono, liberato la vera essenza della musica. Potere accedere a un brano musicale senza dipendere dalla visibilità del corpo dell’esecutore avrebbe difatti, a detta di Arnheim, portato a compimento il destino stesso di un’arte che per sua stessa natura non poteva che tendere al trascendimento dei corpi. La musica avrebbe dunque seguito il destino delle arti del discorso, liberate con l’introduzione della scrittura (e ancor di più con l’avvento della sua riproducibilità grazie ai caratteri mobili della stampa), non già dalla voce (i testi hanno sempre una loro voce, che è quella del lettore), ma dalla necessità di passare attraverso l’apparato fonatorio di un unico elocutore.
Scorporare è certo il destino dell’arte, e dei mezzi che la supportano, che sono tutti alla lettera dei profanateurs, cioè dei body snatchers. E le cose poi con la musica sappiamo bene che piega avrebbero preso: nel giro di un paio di generazioni si sarebbe passati dalla cancellazione della visibilità dell’esecutore alla possibilità di fare a meno addirittura del suo corpo…
